· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

Each player builds one ancient wonder, stage by stage, and the first to finish ends the game. On your turn you take one card from the deck on your left, the deck on your right, or a face-down deck in the middle. Battles start when enough horn cards flip, and you only fight your two neighbors. It suits families of up to seven who find the original 7 Wonders too busy.

What we love

  • Seats seven in about 25 minutes, which few games can claim.
  • Each wonder has its own one-off ability on some stages, while Giza simply scores more points instead.
  • Green cards earn progress tokens with unique effects, a small taste of the original's science.

Honest trade-offs

  • You often take what is available, and the decks beside you can leave you boxed in.
  • Fans of the original will miss passing hands of cards around the table.
  • One reviewer found it too light for adults, and it seems to land better with kids.
