Air, Land & Sea
Eighteen cards, three theaters and a constant question of when to cut your losses.
What it is
A tight card duel for two people who want a real contest in 20 minutes. You fight a run of World War II battles across air, land and sea, and whoever controls two of the three theaters takes the battle. Each player gets six cards with no more draws, so every card counts. First to 12 victory points wins the war.
What we love
- Play a card face up in its own theater for its ability, or face down anywhere as a plain strength 2
- Withdrawing early gives your opponent fewer points, so knowing when to quit is half the game
- Six of the 18 cards sit out each battle, so you rarely see the same hand twice
Honest trade-offs
- The box holds 18 battle cards and not much else, which can look thin at first
- The war theme will not suit everyone, though Air, Land & Sea: Critters at War is the same game with cartoon animals
