Apiary
Space bees, bumped workers and a hive that grows one hex at a time.
What it is
A friendly worker placement game for one to five players who hate being blocked. You lead a faction of spacefaring bees, and no action is ever fully closed: land on an occupied spot and the other bee gets bumped along. Your hive fills out hex by hex while your bees grow stronger toward hibernation. We think it suits players who like a shared board with gentle jostling.
What we love
- You can never be completely shut out of an action
- Interaction stays good-natured, which is rare in a euro
- A strong solo mode and a bright, busy look on the table
Honest trade-offs
- The space setting is decoration, and the bees did not need a spaceship
- The theme can confuse at first, especially the player board
AI summary of player sentiment
Across the tables we polled, players consistently praise the game's approachability and pacing. The most common complaint is the space setting is decoration, and the bees did not need a spaceship.
