Bohnanza
Plant, trade and beg for beans, because each field holds only one kind.
What it is
You farm beans in a couple of small fields, and planting a new kind forces an early harvest. You must plant the first card in your hand, so the only way out of a bad hand is to trade with everyone else. The game ends when the deck runs out for the third time, and the most coins wins. It suits talkative tables who like a good haggle over a stink bean.
What we love
- Trading is the whole game, so nobody sits idle on someone else's turn.
- Hand order is fixed, which turns a simple card game into a daily scramble.
Honest trade-offs
- Rio Grande's box says 13 and up
- Quiet groups will get less out of it, since the game lives on negotiation.
- The original German game is for three to five. The 2 to 7 count comes from the Rio Grande edition.
