Catan Junior
Catan for kids, with pirate hideouts and a parrot named Coco.
What it is
Roll the dice, collect wood, goats, molasses and swords from the islands, and spend them on ships and pirate hideouts. First to seven hideouts wins. Klaus Teuber reworked a 2007 junior game into this 2011 version. Perfect for kids from six up, and for parents who want them ready for full Catan.
What we love
- Each island makes one resource, so kids can see what to collect
- The Ghost Captain stands in for the robber, with a friendlier name
- Coco the Parrot offers help for a price, and his tiles add a small race
Honest trade-offs
- Dice drive the resources, so a bad run can leave a young player short
- Older kids may outgrow it quickly
