Coup
Two hidden cards, five court roles, and a license to lie about all of them.
What it is
A fifteen-minute bluffing game for 2 to 6, perfect for anyone who likes to lie with confidence. You lead a family in a corrupt Italian city-state, holding two face-down cards from five roles: Duke, Assassin, Captain, Ambassador and Contessa. You may claim any role's power, whether or not you hold it, until somebody calls you on it. Lose both cards and you are out, and the last player with influence wins.
What we love
- Small and portable, and over in minutes
- Anyone can challenge any claim, even when not involved
- Five roles, each with an action or a counter
Honest trade-offs
- Eliminated players sit and watch until the round ends
- Only five roles, so it can go stale with repeated play
- Needs an outgoing group, and it leans on bribery and assassination as light theme
