· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

A gentle legacy game for one to six players who like building more than beating anyone. Over ten sessions you draw event cards, gather resources and stick permanent buildings and neighbors onto a shared village map. There is no way to lose, though hunger and termites can still make life hard for the townsfolk. Five endings and a double-sided board make it a fine long project for a family with patience.

What we love

  • Over 800 stickers, and nearly all of them stay put
  • Choices carry forward into later years
  • Nominated for the 2026 Spiel des Jahres

Honest trade-offs

  • No win or lose conditions, so one reviewer called it an activity more than a game
  • The full campaign runs about 5 to 10 hours, and the board only holds two
  • Storybook writing can feel thin and predictable
