· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

A quick cooperative word game for 2 to 6, perfect for anyone who likes Codenames but would rather not have a side to lose to. Code words line the rows and columns of a grid, and each clue card names one square, such as B2. You give a single word that links the row word with the column word, and the team guesses where the card belongs. Grids run from three by three to five by five, and a five-minute sand timer keeps things moving.

What we love

  • Grid size sets the difficulty, from 3x3 to 5x5
  • A big pool of code words keeps boards fresh
  • Short enough that a second round is easy

Honest trade-offs

  • The timer can frustrate people who like time to think
  • Your score is the only reward, so endings can feel a bit flat
  • Random boards can occasionally be unusually hard
