Daybreak
Four world powers try to cut emissions before the thermometer runs out of room.
What it is
A tense co-op for one to four players who want a game with something on its mind. Each player runs a world power or bloc, stacking project cards to cut carbon and shield communities from crises. You win by reaching drawdown within six rounds and surviving the last wave of trouble. It won the 2024 Kennerspiel des Jahres, and we think it suits Pandemic fans who can live with a long rulebook.
What we love
- Most rounds carry a real chance of losing
- Separate hands and boards help stop one person running the game
- QR codes link cards to real climate policy, and the box skips plastic
Honest trade-offs
- A long rulebook and plenty of bookkeeping each round
- The climate theme is the whole point, and the steady crisis mood will not suit players after escapism
- One person running four seats is slower and less fun, so use the proper solo rules
AI summary of player sentiment
Across the tables we polled, players consistently praise the game's approachability and pacing. The most common complaint is a long rulebook and plenty of bookkeeping each round.
