Farkle
Six dice and one question: bank it or roll again?
What it is
Roll six dice, set aside at least one scorer, then choose to bank your points or roll what is left. Roll nothing that scores and you farkle, losing everything from that turn. It began as a folk game with many regional versions, and boxed sets have been sold since 1996. A fun game for anyone who likes a close race to 10,000.
What we love
- Score with all six dice and you roll all six again, which is hard to resist
- Needs only six dice and a score sheet, so it goes anywhere
- Everyone gets one last turn once a player reaches the target, so leads are never safe
Honest trade-offs
- It is mostly luck, with one real decision after each roll
- Scoring tables vary by house, so agree on them before the first roll
