Forbidden Island
Grab four treasures and fly off before the island sinks under your feet.
What it is
You and your team are adventurers on an island that floods one tile at a time. Each turn you take up to three actions: move, shore up flooded ground, give a treasure card or capture a treasure, and each role bends these rules in its own way. Collect all four treasures and reach the helicopter pad together, or go down with the island. It suits families who would rather win or lose as one team, and it comes from Matt Leacock, the designer of Pandemic.
What we love
- Four treasure figurines give kids something solid to chase.
- Tiles sink for good, so the map shrinks as the danger grows.
- Won the 2010 Golden Geek for best children's game and was nominated for the Spiel des Jahres.
Honest trade-offs
- Like most co-ops, one loud player can end up running everyone else's turn.
- Regular players may outgrow it. Forbidden Desert is the harder next step.
