· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

Players lay tiles to build a floating platform and connect its copper wiring into a live circuit, then launch the model rocket before wind and lightning finish them off. When the circuit closes, the rocket lights up and makes a blast-off sound. It is Matt Leacock's third Forbidden game, after Forbidden Island and Forbidden Desert. A good pick for families who have outgrown those and like a bit of electrical tinkering.

What we love

  • The light-up rocket and working circuit are a treat for kids who like gadgets
  • The board is built as you play, so no two games look alike
  • The circuit puzzle is the toughest challenge in the series

Honest trade-offs

  • Gamewright lists it as out of print, so copies may be hard to find
  • A confident player can end up running everyone else's turn
  • One reviewer found its colors and theme duller than Island and Desert
