Gin Rummy
Two players, ten cards and the moment you decide to knock.
What it is
The classic two-player rummy, and one of the easiest ways to play cards with one other person. You draw and discard to turn ten cards into sets and runs. Knock once your unmatched cards total 10 or less, or go gin with none at all. First to 100 points wins.
What we love
- Needs only one standard 52-card deck
- The undercut punishes a greedy knock, so timing is the whole game
- Elwood Baker and his son created it in New York in 1909
Honest trade-offs
- A full game to 100 takes several hands, so it can run well past the listed 15 minutes
- Bonus values differ between rule books, so agree them first
