Hanabi
Everyone sees your cards but you, and you are all on the same team.
What it is
A co-op card game where you hold your hand backwards. Everyone sees your cards but you, and the only help is a color or number hint from a teammate with a limited supply of hints. The goal is five firework stacks, one through five, played in order.
What we love
- A co-op built on communication, not on one player barking orders
- Sixty cards and a few tokens fit in a coat pocket, and the standard game uses fifty of them
- Groups develop their own hint shorthand, and watching that grow is half the fun
Honest trade-offs
- Table talk and quarterbacking need ground rules before the first hand
- A perfect score is 25 and takes real practice, so early games can sting
- The hint rules are fiddly to teach to a first-timer
