· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

A game for 2 to 4 people who read the news and want to argue about it. Each player leads a part of a fictional nation: the Working Class, the Middle Class, the Capitalists or the State. You play cards, vote on policy and work the economy, with each role chasing its own goals. It was developed with academics and, to its credit, does not tell you which side to pick.

What we love

  • Four very different roles, each with its own scoring curve.
  • Policy votes mean the country itself changes as you play.
  • One reviewer says players get invested enough to lose track of the hours.

Honest trade-offs

  • It is plainly a game about politics, which some groups will not want on game night.
  • Length is the main complaint. It can run for hours and takes a lot of table space.
  • It is best at four. At two, only the Working Class and the Capitalists are played.
