· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

A game for 1 to 4 people who want a thoughtful euro with a setting few board games attempt. You lead a community through Jerusalem, gathering bread, fish and stone, then seat your followers as close to Jesus and the apostles as you can. The game ends when the Sanhedrin's patience runs out. Designer Carmen García Jiménez is a professor and theologian, and Devir presented the game in a church in La Seu d'Urgell with the archbishop attending.

What we love

  • Apostles take their seats during play, so you often do not know who your followers will sit beside.
  • Cards stack with their location symbols showing, and matching sets call an apostle to the table.
  • Parable tokens collected in order can score up to 18 points.

Honest trade-offs

  • You compete for seats near Jesus at the Last Supper. The handling is respectful, but some households may prefer that story kept out of a contest.
  • Actions are heavily linked, so there are many dependencies to track.
  • One review found the solo bot, Barabbas, less satisfying than the multiplayer game.
