Lords of Waterdeep
A fantasy city, a handful of agents and a lot of coloured cubes dressed up as heroes.
What it is
You play a secret Lord of Waterdeep, sending agents around the city to hire adventurers and finish quests. Fighters, rogues, clerics and wizards are cubes you spend on quests over eight rounds. Your hidden Lord card pays a bonus for certain quest types, so rivals have to guess your plan. It is a friendly first step into worker placement, good for groups who want a fantasy theme without a fantasy rulebook.
What we love
- The rules can be explained in minutes.
- Each space holds one agent, so timing and small gambles matter.
- Plenty of buildings, quests and intrigue cards keep games varied.
Honest trade-offs
- The theme is skin deep, and the heroes are just cubes.
- Lord cards lack variety, and many feel alike.
- It is a Dungeons & Dragons product, which some families will want to weigh up.
