Nusfjord
Run a Norwegian cod company and hope the elders are fed.
What it is
Uwe Rosenberg's fishing game, set in the Lofoten village of Nusfjord during its cod boom. Each of seven rounds your boats bring in fish, which go first to your elders, then to outside shareholders, and only then to you. With three actions a round, you buy ships, raise buildings and clear forest. It is a shorter Rosenberg, at about 20 minutes a player.
What we love
- Selling shares raises gold, but those shareholders then eat before you do.
- Serving fish on the banquet track earns gold and pays for the elders you may hire later.
- The 2024 Big Box bundles the base game with expansions.
Honest trade-offs
- Empty harbor spaces and unissued shares cost points at the end.
- Seven rounds of three actions goes by fast, so early slips are hard to undo.
