Orléans
Your workers live in a bag, and you have to reach in and hope.
What it is
Set in medieval France, it has you recruiting farmers, monks, craftsmen and scholars into a cloth bag. Each round you draw followers and assign them to actions on your own board. Half the main board is a map for travel and trading stations. It suits anyone who likes deck-building but would rather hold something in the hand.
What we love
- Drawing and placing wooden followers is a real tactile pleasure.
- Players plan at the same time, then take actions in turn, so waits stay short.
- Eighteen rounds leave room for many routes to points.
Honest trade-offs
- Player interaction is limited, and some paths can feel dull after several plays.
- The final scoring formula can surprise people, and not always pleasantly.
- A fifth player needs a separate add-on box.
