· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

Thomas Lehmann's space card game from 2007. Each round you secretly pick from five phases, and only the phases someone chose will happen. You lay worlds and developments into a tableau and consume goods for points. Perfect for anyone who likes a fast card game with plenty to read.

What we love

  • Secret phase picks keep you guessing what the others want.
  • Two routes to points: a scoring tableau, or goods consumed for chips.
  • It won the 2008 Golden Geek for Best Card Game.

Honest trade-offs

  • We think the icon language takes a few games to learn.
  • Solo play and more than four players both need expansions.
  • Most of what you do happens in your own tableau, so direct interaction is light.
