· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

A tile-laying game for two to four players who like a simple turn with a sting in it. Clans rebuild a ruined land by placing one tile a turn, fighting for influence around castles and cutting each other off at bottlenecks. The double-sided board offers Scotland, built around private objectives, and Ireland, with public goals to race for. It won the 2026 Kennerspiel des Jahres, and we think it suits anyone who likes Knizia's clean rules.

What we love

  • One tile a turn, with plenty of tactics behind it
  • A shared board means real blocking and majority fights
  • Two maps in the box, and strong production

Honest trade-offs

  • On Scotland, a lucky private objective can swing the game
  • Ireland's eight public objectives can water down the race
