Reef
Stack chunky coral, then score it with the card you saved for later.
What it is
On your turn you either take a card or play one, adding two coral pieces to your four-by-four reef and scoring the pattern shown on the card. Only the top piece of each stack counts, and stacks stop at four high, so every placement changes what comes next. Emerson Matsuuchi designed it for Next Move Games in 2018. A good pick for families and couples who like a tidy puzzle they can pick up and handle.
What we love
- The chunky coral pieces feel great in the hand
- Each color also has its own shape, which helps color-blind players
- One action a turn keeps it moving with almost no waiting
Honest trade-offs
- The card display can leave you with nothing useful to chain
- More tactical than strategic, so long-range planners may want more control
