Sheriff of Nottingham
Smuggle your goods past the Sheriff, or pay him to look the other way.
What it is
A bluffing and bribery game for 3 to 5, perfect for anyone who enjoys a good haggle over nothing much. Each round one player is the Sheriff while the others bag up goods, declare a legal type and a count, and hope. You must state the true number of cards but may lie about what they are, and contraband like pepper, mead, silk and crossbows scores more. The Sheriff can inspect or take a bribe, and a 2020 second edition from CMON seats six and folds three small expansions into one box.
What we love
- Every player takes a turn as Sheriff
- Bribes can be gold, cards or promises
- The merchant bags make each declaration feel like a small standoff
Honest trade-offs
- Lying and bribery are the whole game, which will not suit every group
- Sixty minutes is long for a bluffing game if the group is quiet
- The first edition stops at five, so look for the 2020 edition for six
