Taboo
Get your team to say the word, and stay away from every word that would help.
What it is
The classic team word game from 1989, perfect for anyone with a quick mouth and a competitive streak. At four it plays as two teams of two, and bigger groups split into two sides sitting alternately around the circle. You describe a word against the timer while an opponent listens for any forbidden term, squeaker at the ready. Each word guessed scores a point, and a slip costs you.
What we love
- Works as a 2v2 or with a crowd in two teams
- Your opponents do the policing, which keeps everyone involved
- The current Hasbro box has 212 cards and 848 guess words
Honest trade-offs
- Quick talkers have an edge, and shy players can freeze
- Clue giving under a timer takes some nerve
- The current word list leans on pop culture, which may lose older relatives
