The Castles of Mad King Ludwig
Build a ridiculous castle one room at a time, at prices set by your rivals.
What it is
A castle-building puzzle for people who like planning with a bit of spite in it. Each round one player becomes Master Builder and sets the price of every room on sale, and everyone else pays that player to buy. Rooms score more or less depending on what they touch, and all those odd shapes have to fit. King's Favor tiles change the end-game goals each time.
What we love
- The Master Builder role rotates, so everyone gets a turn to earn money
- Up to four of 24 King's Favors are drawn each game, so plans must change
- Completing a room pays a bonus such as money, points, an extra turn or more cards
Honest trade-offs
- The 13+ rating reflects the analysis involved, not the content
- At 90 minutes it is a longer sit than most games in this group
- The layers of scoring will not suit families with mixed tastes
