· OUR TAKE ·

What it is

You are a fairground quack brewing a potion over nine rounds, drawing tokens from your own bag onto a spiral pot. Push too far and the white cherry bombs blow it up. Coins buy better ingredients for later rounds, so your bag slowly gets less dangerous. It suits groups who enjoy a good gasp more than a perfect plan, and it won the 2018 Kennerspiel des Jahres.

What we love

  • An exploded pot still pays out: you choose coins or points, just not both.
  • Rat tails move a trailing player's starting spot forward each round, so nobody falls too far behind.
  • A Fortune Teller card changes the rules each round, so no two games run the same.

Honest trade-offs

  • Luck is real. Sometimes the white tokens simply come out in a row.
  • The theme is charlatans and potions at a fair, and one expansion is called The Herb Witches. It is played for laughs, not ritual, but some families will want to know.
